| The Bridge, Bring Me Breath, I Can't Help But Smile, Lucidity, A Date With Starlight. Dedicated to David Proven. |
The Bridge We sit over a waterfall that minds its flow. A conversation takes place as always; washing a smile across my face. I stare at him, unable to stop... Memorizing every detail of his sweet profile; running my fingers along its edges to make sure he's real. Rain breaks out of a dark gray sky... Pounding my warm, dry skin and gliding down my neck. The water flowing beneath us is freckled with ripples from the sweet drops disturbing it. Two reflections stare back at us, slightly obscured. Curious ducks walk nearby, as fascinated with us as we are with them. He wraps his arms around me, keeping my bare, wet shoulders warm... Holding me close . A hand lifts my shivering chin to awaken my dormant senses with a sweet kiss, only too perfect... A moment that should never end upon this bridge supporting our cooling bodies. A soft, mild wind and cool rain run down my arms, sending a chill through my blood. With closed eyes, the picture remains; Trees dripping with crystal drops and the delicate roar of running water. Undisturbed happiness that, within my mind, shall never change. A beautiful, picturesque day embraces me with a loving touch. This bridge became my home and my altar... I pray I never must depart. No matter how horrid life will treat me, there will always be vivid memories of a flawless array of nature within my mind. Yet, as quickly as a memory begins, it ends, leaving behind a love for life, and a smile. 6*21*96 Dalila Veiga Bring Me Breath shine down upon me, stars... and fill my heart and guide it's way... help keep that dim shimmer alive... grab me by the eyes, stars... and force my eyes open to see into you... wrap your limbs around me, stars... as i can fit perfectly within your frame... let me ride your light as i travel back home. call upon me when my time has come, stars... and i will be watching you patiently, awaiting gaze... force me to understand, stars... why my time must hold, while my life continues... tell me why i can't be nearer to breath. answer me, stars... i bow to thee for answers, but have yet to earn them. call me from sleep, call me from death... hollar my name, bring me breath. come to my window, perch on my bed... answer the queries within my head... caress my face, and kiss my cheek.. grant onto me the solace i seek... don't call me from sleep... nor wake me from death... but hollar my name and bring me breath. 3-4-98 Dalila Veiga I Cant Help But Smile! I have a shell in my wallet. Not exactly a shell, but a fragment. Just a piece of the radical creatures home. It has smooth edges from being rolled constantly through waves and sand. A fragment; reminding me of today. A piece; reminding me of you. I was blind when I plucked it from its damp beige carpet, but still managed to seize A fragment of beauty; a reminder of the gray ceiling and bright floor, and white, rushing waves and endless serenity. A piece; reminding me of your devotion and obsession with my happiness. And I cant help but smile when I look at it, or when I brush the sand particles from off my chucks. And I cant stop thinking that its there while wiping the wet footprints off my porch floor. But still, within my wallet harbors that fragment; a reminder of the frigid weather we suffered for the sake of time alone, and a piece; reminding me why Im still alive to open my wallet and smile. 1-24-98 Dalila Veiga LUCIDITY Ive seen a side of you... as if your entirety was playing an instrument manufactured from cracking, paper-thin crystal. Such delicacy... such presence. Ive felt that side of you... as if too afraid to be seen showing it. Two olive arms enrapture my chilled upper body with a slight squeeze near the end of what seems to be a journey through heaven. Ive breathed that side of you... that cologne resting on your neck filled my nostrils and sent an immediate vibe of approval through out my limbs; lightly pressing its fragrant lips upon my forehead as a good-night kiss. Ive heard that side of you... which you drowned under many miles of deep, unreleased tears. That sound and sting you refuse to acknowledge and humor; unknown to the lot of ignorant pacifists who shone you for protecting yourself. Ive learned to reach that side of you... which proves your valor and bravery as a human being. That side which engulfs me so erotically is easier to understand than why you refuse to let it exist in a stern stance long enough for the idiotic occupants of this planet to bow at its roots. 12-29-97 Dalila Veiga A Date With Starlight Fluffy, dense cotton Softly woven Your soothing warmth pressed gently against my face as I lay embraced by two calling, night-draped arms. Embedded quietly in a comfortable display; My head resting on your stomach... Your pillowy sleeves surrounding my slightly damp hair silhouetted in perfectly round curls and bends around my profile... Clinging to silently defined clouds of midnight. And, oh... to feel calm, tepid fingers glide along my cheek and down my curl-clutched neck... to contain the plush masses to the east and west; pulling them inevitably close, closer until my own hot breath is reciprocated to further blush my flesh. Calm and relaxing Soothing to an over-worked mind, And tantalizing to a tingled body. Perfected by a wide-eyed awakening, revealing two crisp ponds under a cloud-kissed morning sky. I have missed and yearned human contact this real and chatty in such a serene, sensitive and calling manner.... Tempting me to gaze north once more, and take my chances. 12-20-97 Dalila Veiga | ||||||||||||||||

Not Even One. Do you remember your first breath of life?... when you were pure and nonchalant in your sweet innocence? Do you remember your first smile of joy?... when you first laid eyes upon a mother?... father? Brought into this diminishing world to love and be loved? By a mother? a father, Birthed to live and admire the source of your life?... A mother, a father? Do you remember the purpose of the struggle? To live and be guided by a mother. A father? Can you recall being held to share the tepid warmth of shelter and guidance... My mother?... what father? Being understood and psychologically abandoned... not my mother, but my father. I do not recall a breath or smile, nor guidance or shelter. I do not recall being loved or left to love others. But now the doors have closed and I?... behind; left to put my all into nothing. No love, no care. No guidance, no warmth. Left to imagin who those two were... My mother, my father. 11-20-97 Dalila Veiga | You Know Who You Are, Supposidly Two- Not Even One. | Once Again The Day Has Come, What You See, If Only Words Could Say It All. Dedicated to Drew McMurry. |
Once Again The Day Has Come In the midst of an hour of slumbering light... A day when one month came and went, You looked upon me with a sympathetic gaze. I searched to the depths of your eyes and encountered somber news. I could read you like a neon sign; Blinding my vision. I hadnt prepared for this one night; One night that took my last warm breath. One night that killed my last hope. One night which put me in the darkest corner of my mind where my most horrid fears pranced around me with joy. I cried out from that night a thousand times, until I no longer had the strength to fight it. I spoke to the division of my imagination where god harbored. I prayed and begged for one more chance. One more chance to pledge my love to you again. One more chance... when I could do everything right. One more chance to have one, just one more sweet kiss. If one day can ruin me one more can transform me into the jolliest child in the free green world. I dreamt of the day when I would feel your heavy, smooth hands on my blushing face and your lips on my own. To my surprise that day came. The day I had anticipated had come... and I was prepared. I was ready to be held in your securing arms again; to feel whole once more. The moment came when you graced me with that one kiss... That one kiss that shot a chill down my spine. That one kiss I longed so much for. That one kiss that would guide the way into the future. 12-6-96 Published by Freedom Publications Dalila Veiga What You See... To really care, to worry about... To try to help you think things out. To be a good pal right till the end; Your crazy thoughts that I defend. A loving friend is what you need... Therefore Im here to sow the seed. 2\10\96, 8-14-97 Published by American Poetry Awards Dalila Veiga IF ONLY WORDS COULD SAY IT ALL...
